This course covers the state-regulated curriculum for managing challenging behaviors in community residential settings. It fulfills the training requirements for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) regarding the identification of the underlying functions of behavior and the use of non-aversive interventions. The curriculum provides the framework for maintaining safety during behavioral incidents.

The course details data collection methods for functional behavior assessments, environmental trigger tracking, and the execution of Individual Instruction and Support Plans (IISPs). Participants learn to identify early signs of behavioral distress, apply verbal de-escalation techniques, and use positive reinforcement schedules. Training includes scenario simulations to practice supporting individuals with complex needs according to state care standards.
