Home Care Services for Parkland Seniors

About one in seven people in Parkland is 65 or older, 5,650 residents in all, and close to half of them live with a disability. Those numbers usually show up in small ways first, like a bathtub that's gotten harder to step into or a grocery trip that leaves your dad worn out for the rest of the day.

Our caregivers help with those everyday needs. Senior home care in Parkland covers the full range of help we offer older adults at home, and it falls into three groups.

Companion care

A companion caregiver brings good company and a helping hand around the house, including:

  • Meal preparation
  • Mobility exercises
  • Medication reminders
  • Rides to doctor's appointments
  • Light housekeeping
  • Laundry

Personal care

Personal care is hands-on help with the daily routines that can get harder with age or a change in health, such as:

  • Bathing
  • Getting dressed
  • Grooming
  • Moving from bed to chair
  • Toileting and incontinence care
  • Eating

Specialized care

Some needs call for more time or more training, so we also offer care around the clock and care for a loved one living with memory loss:

  • 24-hour care
  • Dementia care
  • Parkinson's care
  • Care after surgery
  • Help with the move from hospital to home

Family caregivers need rest too. Respite care gives you a break, anywhere from a few hours to an overnight stay, while a caregiver looks after your mom or dad. Live-in care gives steady, round-the-clock support to seniors who need someone with them all the time, so they can keep living at home. Relatives who handle much of the care themselves can also lean on our Family Caregiver Support program, where a service coordinator builds a simple care plan with you and gives you hands-on training for the tasks in it.

A Nurse-Owned Home Care Agency Near Parkland

Our founder, Annet Pasquali, RN, worked as a bedside nurse at Tacoma General Hospital. She saw many seniors and people with disabilities struggle to stay healthy once they got home, and she started Vibrant Health Homecare to give them the support they needed to thrive.

Today our team shares more than 56 years of combined experience in elderly care. Parkland families get a home care agency that runs on a few simple values, and two of them shape every visit. Open communication means our door is open, and we welcome your questions and feedback at any point. Consistent service means we deliver the care we agreed on together, week after week.

Our office is at 5401 S. Tacoma Way in Tacoma. You can learn more about our story and our values, and take a look at what families say about our caregivers while you're deciding.

Help Coming Home After a Hospital Stay

Parkland has its own emergency department on Pacific Avenue South. MultiCare Emergency in Parkland is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with services provided by MultiCare Good Samaritan Hospital. The question of help at home often comes up right after a visit like that, or after a longer hospital stay, when the discharge papers are in your hand and the drive home is the next step.

Our hospital to home care in Parkland starts before your loved one leaves the hospital whenever we can manage it. We work with the hospital's discharge planners, go over the discharge instructions with you, and check the home for safety, so fall hazards are cleared and furniture is moved where it helps.

A caregiver then gives medication reminders, helps with daily tasks during recovery and drives your loved one to follow-up appointments. Our care management team keeps appointments, providers and family updates organized while they heal. You can read more about how we handle the move from hospital to home.

Paying for Home Care in Parkland: Private Pay, Insurance and Medicaid

Families pay for care in different ways, and we accept four of them: private pay, long-term care insurance, Medicaid waiver and DDA. The cost depends on the services, the level of care and how often a caregiver comes. The Get Started form brings you pricing along with information about your options, so you're never guessing.

Medicaid home care in Pierce County runs through state waiver programs. The Washington Medicaid program pays for personal care at home for residents who meet the financial eligibility for Home and Community Services. Vibrant Health Homecare has a contract with DSHS to serve clients on these programs, including COPES, Community First Choice, Medicaid Personal Care and New Freedom. New Freedom is only offered in King and Pierce Counties, and Parkland sits in Pierce County, so it's an option here.

Clients already on one of these programs can ask their case manager to send a referral packet to Vibrant Health Homecare. You'll find the full list of waiver programs we serve on our site.

Adults with developmental or intellectual disabilities may qualify for Supported Living, a DDA-sponsored service we provide. It helps people live a full life in the community and keep or learn skills tied to their own goals, and their DDA case manager can send the referral packet to us.

Senior Resources for Parkland Families

Nearly a quarter of Parkland's older residents live alone, 1,299 people aged 65 and over. That's a lot of neighbors with nobody in the house to notice a skipped meal or offer a ride to the store, and local programs can fill some of those gaps alongside home care.

Pierce County's Aging and Disability Resource Center is the county's starting point for programs for older adults and adults with disabilities, including case management and the long-term care ombudsman. It's open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, on the first floor of 1501 Market Street in Tacoma. Its Family Caregiver Support Program helps the main unpaid caregiver with a home visit from a case manager, dementia behavior education, care supplies, breaks from caregiving and support groups.

Closer to home, the Spana-Park Senior Center at 325 152nd St. E. is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesday through Friday. Thursday is meal day, with coffee at 11 and lunch at 11:30, plus a pancake breakfast on the third Saturday of each month. The Parkland/Spanaway library at 13718 Pacific Ave. S. is open seven days a week and sits on a Pierce Transit route.

Our caregivers can drive your loved one to that Thursday lunch or the library and keep them company along the way, as part of the rides and companionship our caregivers provide.

Getting Started With Home Care in Parkland

The first step is the Get Started form. It asks about your loved one and the help they need, and the more you can share, the better we understand their care needs.

A caring staff member from our office reviews your form and reaches out to you with information and pricing. Together, we go over your loved one's needs in more detail and talk about how our team can best support them.

From there, we draft a care plan that suits their goals, and we keep adjusting it as their needs change. Take your time with it. Fill out our Get Started form whenever you're ready, and we'll take it from there.
